Derek Alton Walcott was born in Castries, Saint Lucia. He is a Saint Lucian poet and playwright.
His work explore the Caribbean cultural. Derek Walcott is best known for his poetry, beginning with In a Green Night. He has written more than 30 plays and it includes Dream on Monkey Mountain, The Odyssey and The Capeman. He also wrote many books like Omeros, What the twilight says, Sea grapes and the bounty. Derek Walcott won Nobel Prize in Literature, T.S Eliot Prize, a Royal Society of Literature Award, and Obie Award for the best Foreign Play and Common Wealth Award of Distinguished Service. He is currently Professor of Poetry at the University of Essex.
