Catherynne M. Valente was born in Washington, United States on May 5, 1979. She is anAmerican fiction writer, poet, and literary critic. She is known for her speculative fiction novels.
Her children’s novel, The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Makingdebuted at number 8 on the New York Times Best Seller List. She has won the annual James Tip tree, Andre Norton, and Mythopoeic Fantasy Awards for her Fiction Novels. Her book, Palimpsest won the Lambda Award for GLBT Science Fiction or Fantasy. Catherynne M. Valente is extremely active in the crowd funding movement of online artists, and her novel The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making was the first online, crowd funded book to win a major literary award before traditional publication. She also wrote books like Six guns and Snow White, Deathless, The Ice Puzzle and Radiance. She donated her archive to theScience Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) Collection in the department of Rare Books and Special Collections at Northern Illinois University.
