Hans Christian Andersen was born in Odense, Denmark on April 2, 1805, and died on August 4, 1875. He was a Danish author best known for writing children’s stories including “The Little Mermaid” and “The Ugly Duckling.” Although he was the writer of plays, travelogues, novels, and poems. Andersen’s work first gained recognition in 1829, with the publication of a short story entitled A Journey on Foot from Holmen’s Canal to the East Point of Amager. Andersen story fairy tales were translated into 125 languages. Some of his famous stories are The Snow Queen, The Nightingale, The Emperor’s New Clothes. Andersen also won the Prometheus Hall of Fame Award.
