Author Biography

Elizabeth Gilbert was born in Waterbury, the United States on July 18, 1969. She is an American author, essayist, short story writer, biographer, novelist and memoirist. Gilbert earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from New York University in 1991.
Gilbert had her short story, “Pilgrims” published in 1993 in Esquire Magazine. It was published under the headline, “The Debut of an American Writer”. She was the first unpublished short story writer to debut in Esquire since Norman Mailer. In 1997, she published “The Muse of the Coyote Ugly Saloon”, a memoir of her time as a bartender in the East Village of New York. The GQ article became the basis for the feature film from 2000 called Coyote Ugly.
She is best known for Eat, Pray, Love, a book about a celebrated writer’s irresistible, candid, and eloquent account of her pursuit of worldly pleasure, spiritual devotion and what she really wanted in life. The book sold over 12 million copies and spent 199 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list. It has been translated into over 30 languages and the movie that came out in 2010 starred Julia Roberts who played Gilbert in the movie.
Elizabeth Gilbert wrote two Novels named Stern Men and The Signature of All Things. Gilbert’s first book Pilgrims received the Pushcart Prize and was a finalist for the Hemingway Award.
